Decode America

Read honestly: only recorded votes appear — the House and Senate decide much business by voice vote, which leaves no list of who voted how, and no site can honestly say how anyone voted on those. Check the kind of vote: a procedural motion, an amendment or a vote to end debate is not a vote on final passage. Every row links to the chamber's own record.

How this member's votes lined up with the party majorities

A party's position on a vote is the side a majority of its members voting Yea or Nay took, counted from the roll call itself — parties are groups of people, not blocks, so this is counted for every vote, never assumed. Independents have no party majority of their own to compare against.
